David Morris MP has welcomed news that companies in Morecambe and Lunesdale are contributing to the UK’s 2.8 per cent increase in exports.
Since April 2013, the Government agency UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) has provided support to 32 businesses in Morecambe and Lunesdale, and a total of 1,714 services to 650 businesses across the whole of Lancashire.
Nine companies have received advice on the Passport to Export trade programme which is designed to provide new or inexperienced exporters with training, planning and support to grow their business overseas.
Mr Morris said: “I have said on many occasions that Morecambe and Lunesdale is open for business.
“Just a few weeks ago, I took the Prime Minister to F Edmondson and Sons Transport who export furniture and the Chancellor George Osborne to DST which is a company based on White Lund exporting all over the world and particularly to Asia.”
Grant Shapps MP also accompanied Mr Morris to Havwoods of Carnforth who export wooden flooring to Australia.
Mr Morris said: “It is great news that so many businesses are exporting and making such a huge contribution to the economy. I’d encourage any company who are considering entering the export market to apply for the Passport to Export service.”
