Florist Margaret Mason was smiling from ear to ear after being given a special recognition award for giving more than half a century of hard work to Preston city centre.

Margaret, who has run her Friargate business for 52 years, was presented with the top honour at the end of the first Preston, It Smiles Better – The Awards ceremony last night by North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce (NWLCC) chief executive Babs Murphy.

The award was the 15th presented during a ceremony at Evoque Nightclub, which featured a surprise special guest appearance from internationally renowned music producer David Gest.

He handed out awards for Outstanding Achievement (Retail) to Gwenda Liptrot of PDSA, Outstanding Achievement (Leisure) to Phil Bowers of Hartleys and Customer Service Champion to Andrea Mellon, from Duk-Pond.

Margaret said: “I definitely wasn’t expecting that, I am absolutely delighted.”
