A Lancashire law firm is backing gold medal-winning canoeist Kathryn Moffitt.
The 30-year-old, who works for Preston City Council, represents her country in canoe polo and has won a clutch of medals in recent competitions.
She has just signed a year’s sponsorship with Walker Smith Way Legal which has offices in Preston, Liverpool, Manchester, Chester and Wrexham.
Kathryn said: “Sponsorship like this is an enormous help. We don’t receive any external funding and have to pay for all our equipment ourselves – we even have to cover the cost of travelling to events and national and international competitions.
“It costs us anywhere between £300 and £500 to take part in a competition.
“Walker Smith Way Legal’s financial contribution will significantly help me with the costs of training and attending competitions to represent Great Britain.”
When she is not on the water and representing her country, Kathryn is the health and physical activity manager at the council, helping the public improve their health and wellbeing with initiatives such as cycling schemes and health walks
Among her sporting achievements are six gold medals including World Champion, World Games Champion, and European Champion. She also has four silver medals in European and World titles.
Neil Turnbull, managing partner at Walker Smith Way Legal, said: “At Walker Smith Way Legal, we believe promoting health and fitness through sports activity is incredibly important to people’s wellbeing and as such we run a number of initiatives; predominantly our Funds 4 Clubs scheme which contributes hundreds of pounds to sports clubs across the North West.”
