Lancashire gaming group 'comes of age'

A gaming group run by a Lancashire multi-millionaire has "come of age" after a surge in revenues of more than £10m.

NetPlay TV, run by founder Martin Higginson with its head office in Church Street, Lancaster, announced an 118% increase in revenues up to 19.8m from just 9.1m last year.

It also saw pre-tax earnings move into positive territory from the 1.7m loss in 2007 to 2.4m this year.

Non-executive chairman Clive Jones hailed the results announced on Monday as the "transformation" of the business.

He said: "NetPlay TV has come of age.

"The demand for 'live' gaming is starting to gather momentum and we are uniquely positioned to take advantage of this major opportunity.

"The UK Government is committed to the delivery of a fast Internet service for all and, as such, TV quality interactive programming is now available to an increased and growing number of UK homes."

Martin Higginson, who moved the business up from London to his native Lancashire last year, said it was now seeing the benefits of its investments over the last two years.

He said: "The company has never been better placed to take advantage of the numerous opportunities that lie ahead."
