Lancashire digital marketing firm targets growth

Lancashire-based digital marketing agency Fat Media has aquired Bristol company Strategy Digital.

David Durnford, owner and CEO of the Lancaster-based agency, has purchased the business from founding owner John Courtney and his wife – and business partner – Kath Dawson.

The acquisition marks an exciting time for Fat Media, which was acquired by David Durnford last year.

The move absorbed his then-named company Motive Technology to create one of the largest digital marketing agencies in the North of England.

David said: “I’m delighted to welcome Strategy Digital into the Fat Media family. We have been really impressed with the team. Their enthusiasm and expertise will help us to further build our social and search capabilities within Fat Media, as well as providing the foundation for a full-service digital offering based in Bristol to complement our offices in Lancaster and London.”

Strategy Digital works with a host of nationwide clients including: Tanners Wine Merchants, Woodhouse Clothing, Thomson Local Market Location and K International.

Fat Media’s client list includes household brands such as Typhoo, OCS, Samsung, Pork Farms, Lancaster University, Jessops and JD Sports.

The company currently employs 93 people, in Lancaster and London, with the acquisition of Strategy Digital bringing its workforce of digital, marketing and technical specialists up to over 130 staff.

As part of the deal, Strategy Digital’s incumbent owner John Courtney will step down as executive chairman, while his wife Kath Dawson will remain in her directorial position.
