More than 500 jobs could be created in Bamber Bridge if plans for a new business park are approved.
Roundhouse Properties wants to replicate the success of its Momentum Business Centre at Buckshaw Village on wasteland at the junction of Nook Lane and Wigan Road, Bamber Bridge - the site comprising part of the South Rings plot, to the rear of the B&Q warehouse.
The application is for 5,444 sq metres of floorspace across six blocks and 43 units, with business space ranging from 636 sq ft to 5,800 sq ft.
Farington East Councillor Mike Otter said: “Nobody has raised any concerns that I know of, and on a personal level, I think it’s a really good idea. The land has been earmarked for development for a long time, and is quite untidy at the moment. This development could improve the area, and create a substantial amount of job opportunities.”
Jeremy Lefton, director of Roundhouse Properties, said: “Momentum at Buckshaw Village has proved to be extremely popular and is now a thriving community of local businesses.
“We’ve looked at how the property market has changed in the past five years and we can an upward trend for flexible business space that growing businesses need.
“It’s a concept that all our developments have been devised on, which also helps to offer flexibility and affordability. We’ll also be repeating the formula in how the businesses or investors can acquire the properties through a lease, purchase or combination offering lease purchase.”
There would be 139 car parking spaces within the scheme.
If passed, construction of the business village’s first phase will be completed in spring/summer 2015.
