Hi-tech company to recruit more staff

New jobs are to be created at a Lancashire hi-tech business following a takeover.

Morecambe-based Optical Fibres (UK) Ltd, which specialises in the installation of cabling systems, has been taken over by Optech Fibres Ltd, based in Barrow-in-Furness.

The company, which has carried out work at the BBC Television Centre, Delta Rail and HBOS, is to end trading under its current name later this month before becoming part of Optech Fibres.

And bosses at the Chester Close site have assured staff offices will remain open, with new jobs likely to be created.

Optical Fibres (UK) managing director Lance Jobson said: "Optical Fibres (UK) had been investigating ways of restructuring its UK operation to keep pace with both the market and customer requirements.

"The venture with Optech Fibres is a crucial element in its restructure. Optech Fibres has grown from strength to strength over the last 15 years to a workforce exceeding 40 engineers and is seen as a UK leader in the IT industry.

"With the increasing demand for skilled engineers it is also envisaged that more job opportunities will be generated in the Lancashire region by this move."

Jamie Frankland, managing director of Optech Fibres, said: "The acquisition of Optical Fibres (UK) was seen as the right move with its engineering skills and existing national coverage.

"Together as one, we will be able to continue to service all our clients as a true single source supplier with in-house IT Support, electrical, design and commissioning teams.

"We look forward to Lance joining the team as director of our optical services division."
