South Ribble Council is waiving the charges on its car parks in Leyland and Lostock Hall until and including Christmas Eve.
The scheme, being rolled out for the fourth year, will start on Monday, December 8 and free parking will be available each day from 10am at five different car parks. They are: Ecroyd Street, Sumner Street, King Street and Churchill Way in Leyland and Hope Terrace in Lostock Hall.
Coun Peter Mullineaux said: “Free parking at Christmas has become incredibly popular with both residents and businesses over the past few years and has proven a real success in drawing in extra trade.
“We have got some wonderful shops on our high streets right across the borough and I would urge residents to support them when out doing their Christmas shopping. Of course there’s also our busy Leyland Market which is always worth a visit.
“As a council, we are passionate about supporting local businesses and seeing them thrive and at the same time we are always looking for ways to help residents save money so offering free parking is a perfect way to do both.”
During Christmas week, Leyland Market will be open on Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23 from 8.30am to 5pm and Christmas Eve until 3pm. The market will re-open on Tuesday, December 30 and then Friday, January 2 from 8.30am till 5pm.
