Planning experts have helped a popular Preston day nursery to target growth after securing planning permission for a new extension allowing it to care for more young children.

Busy Bears, on Manor House Lane in Deepdale, will increase its intake of children from 50 to 62 after its expansion plans were successfullyguided through the planning process by Lancashire-based experts De Pol Associates.

The nursery is also looking to take on five new staff.

Work is scheduled to start on the extension in the spring with a summer opening planned.

The extension to Busy Bears, which was given the go-ahead by Preston City councillors, will support the government-funded initiative to fund free childcare for two year olds.

Busy Bears owner Stewart Birchall said: “Securing planning permission was vital to our work supporting the Government’s initiative to provide additional places for two year olds.

The extension to our facilities will also allow us to grow our staff numbers, with another five joining our existing 19-strong team. We are very pleased to be creatingmore employment for local people.€

Stewart, who founded the business 15 years ago, has seen it continue to grow and develop.

Today Busy Bears has nurseries in Preston, Blackburn and Lytham St Annes.

He said: “The help and support we received from De Pol Associates was really important to us.”

Chris Betteridge of De Pol Associates, which is celebrating 30 years of providing planning and development advice, said: “We were able to demonstrate that the proposed extension to the Busy Bears building would not have a detrimental impact on its neighbours.”
