Locals will have to find somewhere new to get their art supplies as part of Granthams Graphic Technology closes its doors.

The retail showroom on Corporation Street has had its last day of business after it reached the end of its lease period and transfers to Forsyth and Steele Ltd in Poulton-le-Fylde.

The business is moving its production print business from both its sites, the other on Charnley Road, Blackpool, to the printing business on Sovereign Court.

With the business officially changing hands this Monday, managing director of the company, Mark Hudders, ensures customers the company will still be in Preston.

“It’s kind of the end of an era but at the same time we’ll still be in Preston because our graphic technology freehold building on Hope Street will continue as normal. We have faced the same problems as most high street businesses and we’re always competing against online sites as well. Granthams will have a financial interest in Forsyth and Steele and will continue to work towards a smooth and successful transition. We are a £6m turnover business and that won’t be affected by this.”

Mark says he personally opened Grantham’s first Preston store on Heatley Street in 1972 and says although most staff have been kept on in the reshuffle, seven people have been made redundant.

The store officially closed its doors today but work booked in during the week beginning April 4 will be completed and invoiced where possible by the business.

From Monday, print customers are asked to direct calls to Forsyth and Steele on 01253 893093.

Mark said: “I would like to thank you personally for your business and support over many years and assure you of our commitment towards a smooth and comprehensive transfer.”
