Egg man Joe lands top prize

A Penwortham youngster who left school with just two GCSEs has landed a prize for setting up his own business.

Joe Brown, 20, who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome a mild form of autism, picked up the Success After Employment Award at the Barclays Trading Places Awards in London last night ((TUES)).

The youngster who started his own business delivering eggs to 300 homes and businesses in Penwortham in summer 2008 was presented with a cheque for 5,000 at the Intercontinental Hotel in London.

Barclays director for local business John Davies said: "The calinre of this year's entries was exceptional but Joe stood out as a truly remarkable young man.

"His determination to lead an independent life has resulted in him starting up a fantastic business, and enabled him to achieve the personal goal of earning more than he would have received on benefits."

Joe will also receive 2,000 of computer software from awards supporter Microsoft.
