Drivers warned of work on busy m-way junction

Drivers using the M55 around the Broughton Interchange are being advised the eastbound link road on to the northbound M6 will close for three nights later this month.

Routine maintenance is taking place along the northbound M6, around junction 32 at the interchange, and the link road from the M55 will need to close for safety reasons.

The £22,000 Highways Agency project will take place between 8pm and 6am each night from Monday, December 17 and Thursday, December 20.

It involves carriageway repairs and renewal of road markings along a 1.5 1/2 mile section of the northbound M6 from junction 32.

Anyone wanting to join the northbound M6 from the eastbound M55 will be diverted off at junction 1 of the M55 on to the northbound A6, where they can join the M6 at junction 33 using the A6 via Garstang and Galgate.

Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said: “This is routine maintenance to ensure users of the M6 in this part of Lancashire can continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys.

“Drivers wanting to join the northbound M6 from the eastbound M55 should join the motorway at junction 33 from the A6 instead.

“As this is overnight work we do not anticipate long delays, but drivers should leave some extra time in their journey planning for the diversion.”

The Highways Agency is part of the
Department for Transport.

In the North West, day-to-day running and maintenance of the motorway network and other strategic roads is managed by the agency’s two Area Performance Teams.
