Preston-based digital agency Motionlab’s first foray into the highly competitive gaming market has proved a global hit.
Darts Match exceeded the landmark figure of 100,000 downloads just a month after its release.
It now stands at 118,539 – and counting.
An incredible 8m-plus darts have been thrown since its launch on IOS and Android on March 17, a statistic set to escalate with the game also set to be unleashed on the Windows Store on Tuesday April 22.
Downloads have emanated beyond the UK, with particularly impressive download figures in countries such as France, Spain, Germany, Russia and Australia, as users compete against one another for bragging rights on the oche.
Motionlab CEO Simon Iredale said: “We sensed we had something special on our hands soon after the app went live as it attracted more than 1,000 downloads within the first few hours. Awareness of Darts Match quickly spread amongst the darting community and gamers at home and abroad despite an absence of any paid advertising strategy, with us preferring to utilise forums, social media and free offline and online press to publicise it.”
Retweets from Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) chairman Barry Hearn, and players including Dean Winstanley, Jamie Caven, Peter Wright and Wez Newton helped give the game an early seal of approval.
Widespread coverage of the game has since been received in The Sun newspaper and UK Darts Magazine.
It has also featured on several major darts fan sites including the primary PDC-affiliated Australia site. Darts Match has been subject to countless superlatives on various darting forums and the online stores.
