Gas exploration company Cuadrilla has announced it will carry out no further work at one of its controversial Lancashire sites.

The company, which is looking for shale gas across the county, has said it is leaving its Preese Hall site, near Weeton.

The announcement comes as the Government prepares to announce a new round of licences to drilling companies next year and the government expects “massive interest” from oil and gas exploration firms.

The company will apply for an extension to the current planning permission, in order to allow time to seal the well and return the site to its former condition.

It says it will announce proposed new sites early in the New Year.
