College opens business centre in heart of city

Preston College is looking to cash in on the city centre's expansion by boosting its presence in the city business district.

The college's business services division has opened the City Business Centre, on Winckley Street, offering training services and conferencing facilities to companies throughout Preston.

It is hoped companies relocating to the city will use the centre to access business-related courses it already offers from its Fulwood campus.

Philipa Ward, business development manager, said the centre would be "entirely independent" of the college and would be looking to expand its reach through the business community.

She said: "We already have great connections within the city's businesses and we see the opening of the centre as the latest step in the development of those connections.

"This will give us the opportunity to provide business-focused training and facilities within the heart of the business community and that is something we will look to expand as the city expands."

Willie Mills, college principal, said that opening a city centre facility specifically for businesses had been a "long-term ambition" for the college.

He said: "We are thrilled that we are here in the heart of the city and are looking forward to working with companies that have helped make this happen."

The centre, which is in the former office of the North West Development Agency, is offering meetings and conference facilities for businesses within Preston as well as IT and office desk rental facilities.

It has already hosted a number of networking events, including for business group Downtown Preston in Business and the Preston Chamber of Trade.
