Lancashire business leaders today welcomed the City Deal announcement, saying it would give the local economy a massive shot in the arm.
As well as massive transport improvements, part of the City Deal cash will help kick-start the Lancashire Enterprise Zone adjoining BAE Systems’ Samlesbury site.
Around 20 firms have already expressed an interest in bringing 1,200 highly-skilled jobs to the zone.
And that is on top of the money and jobs the multi-million-pound transport improvements will bring.
Babs Murphy, chairman of the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, said: “This is tremendous news. Not only is this tremendous news for Preston, but also for the wider area.
“It will bring all kinds of benefits to the area and create jobs and business.
“This will vastly improve Preston’s future prosperity and I am delighted that all the hard work by everyone involved in the City Deal bid has paid off.”
