High Street fashion retailer Select is set to open a new store in Preston city centre.

The new 5,000 square foot store, due to open tomorrow, will be situated in the long empty Peacocks unit in St George’s Shopping Centre.

This will be the 157th Select store nationwide but the brand’s first to open in central Lancashire.

Today the news was welcomed by bosses at the shopping centre.

Select says that it will offer shoppers catwalk style at affordable high street prices.

The unit itself has benefitted from a complete refit to optimise space and accommodate the store’s seasonal lines, including the latest festive party outfits.

Students will be able to take advantage of its regular 15 per cent discount on production of a valid student identification card.

Launched in the early 1980’s, Select was acquired by the Turkish investor Cafer Mahiroglu in 2008, which brought in a change of focus and turning it into one of the high street’s most affordable fashion retailers.

He commented: “We are thrilled to be continuing our expansion with the opening of a new store in Preston.”

Andrew Stringer, general manager of St George’s Shopping Centre, said: “The Select brand’s strong offer makes it a welcome addition to the shopping centre.

“Our focus as a centre remains on attracting quality brands and independent retailers to Preston and there’s been a noticeable rise in interest for vacant units.

“This is bolstered by the beneficial changes taking shape to the city’s infrastructure and we are confident that our competitive space will secure more retailers as a result.”
