A new gym is set to open on Preston’s North Road Retail Park, creating 30 jobs.

Pure Gym will be opening its 90th outlet next month on the retail park, which has been developed by Worthington Properties.

The new gym is currently being fitted out and is expected to be open by late December.

Pure Gym was founded by leisure entrepreneur Peter Roberts in September 2008.

He conducted his own research into the leisure sector and concluded gym-goers wanted leisure facilities that were open 24/7, had low monthly fees and did not have lengthy contracts.

The fitness chain already has 400,000 members and is forecasting that it will be operating 150 clubs by the end of 2016.

He said: “The North Road Retail Park in Preston provided the ideal location situated in a dense residential area complemented by a growing student population.”

Simeon Worthington, director at Worthington Properties, added: “The gym facility will provide a welcome alternative to the traditional gym model which other operators have in the city.”
