A growing Lancashire online games developer has received £1m backing from a Midlands-based funding group.

Preston-based Soccer Manager Ltd has been given the backing by Mercia Technologies, which specialises in the funding and commercialisation of technology businesses in the UK.

The Preston firm is behind the increasingly popular Soccer Manager games.

It now hopes to roll out the latest version – Soccer Manager 2015 – to extra countries around the globe.

Soccer Manager was founded in 2004 by Andrew Gore, his brothers Steven and Chris, and Peter Adams.

They launched the multi-player Soccer Manager Worlds a year later. Soccer Manager Worlds has had 10 million registrations and is currently played in 39 languages.

The Mercia Technologies funds will be utilised for marketing, further game development and translation of Soccer Manager 2015 into Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

Soccer Manager 2015 is a free, single-player, multi-platform game that allows users to access their saved games from multiple devices.

Steven Gore, Operations Manager for Soccer Manager Ltd, said: “Mercia’s investment in our business, as well as the expertise in the digital and gaming sectors provided by their senior team, will provide strong support to our business as we expand our offering globally.”

Chief executive Andrew Gore said:”The investment gives us extra scope to roll out the new game to other countries. We are all very excited about the future.”
