The boss of a Lancashire building firm has said it is in its strongest position in four years after securing £20m of contracts.
Steve Burke, managing director of Construction Partnership UK (CPUK), said the firm is returning to pre-recession work levels after passing its target for the current financial year with six months to spare.
The firm has landed major deals in Cumbria, including building the new £4.3m Castle Retail Park in Penrith, and talks over large-scale projects in the East Midlands.
Mr Burke said the Skelmersdale-based business is also in talks over new retail contracts.
He said: “Retail does seem to becoming increasingly busier.
“The key to both new projects and refurbishments seems to be the securing of anchor tenants.”
He added CPUK is also see an increasing amount of work coming from the health and education sectors including a £7m student accommodation block in Salford and refurbishment of the Ashworth Hospital on Merseyside.
Mr Burke added: “We are finding developers keen to harness our knowledge in sectors such as health, education and retail and we are working hard with them to keep costs down and provide real value for money through our construction methods and programme times.
It is still very competitive out there and margins are tight, we are concentrating hard to get our prime costs down all the time.”
