Britain’s Walk of Fame goes under the hammer
The Beatles
Britain’s answer to the Hollywood Walk of Fame is to go under the hammer.
The Avenue of Stars is a pavement featuring 90 silver stars etched with the names of international showbiz legends including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Dame Judi Dench.
It was created for a TV spectacular to celebrate ITV’s 50th birthday in 2005 and was a walkway through Covent Garden in London.
Paul Fairweather, from Stockport-based Omega Auctions, said: “This is an interesting piece of television history and it would be great for it to find a permanent home in the UK. It would be nice for it to end up accessible to the public.”
The collection is expected to sell for more than £10,000 when it goes up for auction on Saturday at Omega on Water Street.
Other items in the auction include a hand-written poem by Elvis Presley and a bass guitar belonging to Stone Roses guitarist Mani.
