A champagne afternoon tea was organised for Brenda Flanagan as a thank you for over 30 years service to the St John’s Hospice in Lancaster.
Chairman Rob Daunt said: “Brenda has been a great supporter and campaigner for St John’s since fundraising to build the Hospice began in 1980.
“Since then she has undertaken a number of major roles, not least of which was being the champion for our fundraising team.”
In 1980 Brenda joined and then later chaired the Lancaster Support Group to raise money to build the hospice.
In 1985 she established and developed a volunteer programme and she was chairman of the Friends of St John’s.
Brenda also spoke to local voluntary groups about the work of the hospice, ensuring the local population knew about the need for support both financially and in volunteer hours.
Brenda became a trustee in 1995 and has chaired the fundraising and marketing subcommittee.
She was awarded the British Empire Medal in 2012 in recognition of her work internationally for the Ostomy Association, as well as volunteering for St John’s.
