Boy was able to buy knife
A shop assistant was caught in a safety sting operation in Blackpool when he sold a meat cleaver to a 14-year-old boy.
Salim Hussain, 29, of Highgate Avenue, Preston, pleaded guilty to selling a knife to a person under 18.
He was fined 100 with 100 costs and ordered to pay the 15 victims' surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
Victoria Cartmell, prosecuting for Blackpool Council, said public protection officers and police carried out test purchases of knives at shops using a 14-year-old male volunteer.
At the Poundzone shop, Topping Street, Blackpool, the boy was able to buy a meat cleaver and scissors set from Hussain.
Ms Cartmell added: "The defendant was on his mobile phone throughout the transaction and did not challenge the volunteer about his age.
"The defendant said he had received verbal training about the sale of age-related products, but there was no book at the shop to record
incidents where sales were refused.
There was also no till prompt showing age-related products."
Hussain told magistrates he had nothing to say about the offence.
