Dedicated nurses from St Catherine’s Hospice proved they can rise to a fund-raising challenge when they took part in a sponsored bounce in aid of the charity.
Claire Bannister, a staff nurse on the in-patient unit, organised the event on the front lawn of the Lostock Hall hospice when she and colleagues took to a bouncy castle for the length of a seven-hour shift.
During the same event they got the opportunity to give their manager Lorna Wastell a dousing with freezing cold water – when she took up the ice bucket challenge on behalf of the hospice.
They plan to use the proceeds to buy new pieces of furniture for the unit and some new pieces of nursing equipment.
Claire said: “It was such a fun day and we’re very grateful to everyone who showed their support – whether by sponsoring us or cheering us on the day. Having Lorna take part in the ice bucket challenge was just the icing on the cake! We really enjoyed getting involved in the fund-raising side of the hospice, and hope to organise more events in the future to help do our bit.”
Lorraine Charlesworth, Director of Income Generation at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “The sponsored bounce was a brilliant event and it was fantastic to see the nurses so enthusiastic about raising funds for the hospice.”
