A special sausage is sure to have Clarets fans buzzing – after being named in honour of the club’s mascot.
Bertie’s Honey B’s sausage, courtesy of Hey’s Butchers, which sits in the shadow of Turf Moor, was produced to mark the club’s promotion to the Premier League.
Danny Heys, whose father George owns the business, said: “We have done a few celebration sausages for the Clarets over the years, but have always named them after players or managers.
“This year we wanted to do something a bit different so we ran a competition on our Facebook page asking customers to come up with names for a Bertie Bee sausage.
“We whittled it down to the best four and asked customers to choose the best one. Kirsty Horsfield came up with Bertie’s Honey B’s.
“We decided to make a honey roast pork sausage, which is a good breakfast variety. It has a quite mild, subtle flavour, which children enjoy.”
Bertie himself went along to the butchers to sample the sausage before the Clarets’ final home game of the season against Ipswich Town.
In fact, Burnley Football Club ordered 1,200 of the sausages to serve to their corporate guests before the match.
