Barclays to axe 188 Merseyside jobs

Banking giant Barclays is to axe 188 jobs at call centres.

The bank says it is moving to an automated system for issuing ISA accounts and the staff who previously carried out the work are no longer needed.

The job losses will affect call centres in Liverpool city centre and in Wavertree.

The company said it expects to close the city centre office in September but the Wavertree base will remain open.
