There really is no place like home.
Chip shop owner, Andreas Evangelou and his wife Eleni, are back in Preston, less than a year after retiring to Cyprus.
Just 10 months since their move to their house just outside Larnaca on the island, Andreas decided he and his family missed Preston so much, that it was time to come “home” and get back to work at their shop on Liverpool Road, Penwortham.
Andreas said: “Home is definitely here, we have been here too long to live anywhere else.
“We missed the people and even the weather because the English weather is much more favourable for my job.”
Andreas, a father-of-five has lived in England since he was 15 when he went to work in his Grandfather’s chip shop in Bootle, Liverpool.
And has spent the past 29 years living in Preston with his family.
The popular takeaway owner, was used to working 80 hours a week before their well-earned sunshine break but it’s back to the fryer, much to the relief of his customers.
He said: “Everybody has been saying how pleased they are that we have come back.
“You think that it is much rosier on the other side, that the grass is greener, but Preston will always be home for us.
“Our boys missed school and college and their friends so it was clear to us we had to come home.
“We have got used to England now - Cyprus is too hot for us!”
