A baby and four adults were rescued from a burning block of flats in Lancashire.

Firefighters lifted the child to safety through a second floor window in Blakehall, Digmoor, Skelmersdale, at 6am on Sunday.

The baby, his mother and grandmother were taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

Two neighbours were also led to safety.

Station manager Julian Williams said an investigation was underway but an electrical fault was the most likely cause.

He said: "We believe the fire started in the communal area of the flats and spread to the flats."
