MEMBERS of the disabled community, staff, volunteers and representatives from public, voluntary and community sectors gathered in the Museum of Lancashire in Preston to celebrate the first Lesley Finley Award.
Sponsored by the Community Gateway Association, the award was initiated by the charity Disability Equality North West in memory of their former Chairman Lesley Finley.
The award will be made on an annual basis to a disabled person who has made outstanding achievements and contributions in the areas of disability rights, welfare and support of disabled people and the promotion of independence and the principles of the Social Model of Disability.
The award was presented by Aidan and Lesley’s mother, Sandra Prince to David Hinchliffe. When asked how he felt, David replied, “overjoyed and speechless!”
Kyra Milnes from the Harris Museum, who nominated David said: “I feel deeply inspired by David’s meaningful life and wonder where he gets his energy from.”
