Police have launched an appeal to trace a good samaritan who stopped to help a man found unconscious and bleeding, following an assault in Penwortham.
The 22-year-old victim was walking alone along Stone Croft when he was approached by a group of four men as he reached Kingsfold Drive.
Police said he was then punched to the head and pushed to the floor where he was kicked in an unprovoked assault.
The victim lost consciousness and was helped home by an unknown woman who officers are keen to trace.
He was treated at Royal Preston Hospital for cuts and bruises to his face following the assault at about 8.15pm on December 22.
DC Karen Johnson from Southern CID said: “This was a nasty attack and it is only sheer luck that the victim was not seriously injured.
“I would appeal to anybody that witnessed this assault or with any information about the men responsible to contact police. It is also important that we trace the woman who came to the victim’s aid as she could have key information vital to our investigation.
“The group of men responsible were witnessed chasing another man, unconnected to this incident, to a house on Martinfield Road where criminal damage has been caused to the front door.
“I would also be keen to speak with anyone that may have witnessed this or knows any of the men involved.
“Anyone with information should contact Lancashire Police on 101.”
