A shirtless man hanging from a broken window wreaked havoc on a busy Leyland street on Saturday.

Police were called at around 8.20am to Hough Lane to reports that an agitated male was causing a disturbance.

A police spokesman said: “We arrived at the scene and the male was in an upstairs flat. He had smashed a window and threatened police at the scene.

“Force negotiators attended the scene and attempted to negotiate for some time.

“The man was threatening to jump off the roof.”

The road was closed between Thurston Road and Churchill Way for almost four hours while officers attempted to talk the man down.

Video footage taken at the scene appears to show the man standing on a ledge above the Wardrobe Boutique, throwing pieces of glass onto the street below and shouting obscenities.

The incident was concluded at 12.30pm, when the man, who has not been named, came down from the window ledge and was arrested.

Police said they suspect drugs may have been a factor in the incident.

He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he is currently being treated for self-inflicted minor injuries.
