Police are appealing for information following a fire at a community centre in Preston.

Officers were called by the fire service at about 10pm on Thursday to the Community Link centre on Starrgate Drive in Ashton.

It is believed that a bench outside the centre was set alight and the flames then spread to the rest of the building, causing severe damage to the back of it. There was no one inside at the time.

PS Michelle Doughty of Lea Police said: “We believe this fire may have been started deliberately and I would urge anyone who has any information or saw anybody acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the incident to contact us.”
