A man had to be cut out of his car after losing control on a bend and smashing into a tree.

Part of Brownedge Road, Bamber Bridge, was closed because of the accident at 1pm on Monday.

Bamber Bridge Fire Station crew manager Jamie Plant said: “The driver lost control, slipped one way, tried to correct it, then slipped the other way and hit a tree side on.”

Because it landed on a steep banking, the car had to be tethered to the tree while firefighters cut the roof off to release the man, who was complaining of back pain.

Mr Plant added: “We urge drivers to be aware that recent rainfall is bringing oil out of the roads and making them very greasy.”
