As the country pauses to remember lost heroes, one Lancashire cake shop has been commemorating the fallen in a very special way.

A massive remembrance display in the shop window of Lisa Marie Cakes in Longridge has been capturing the attention of passers-by and making them pause for thought.

The Berry Lane store has been decorated with giant red poppies and a massive white tiered model cake carries the black silhouettes of British soldiers on manoeuvre and more remembrance blooms.

Owner Lisa Marie Ousby said: “It’s probably the most important window we do in the year. It was something we wanted to do.”

She said her staff had worked as a team to make the special window display.

Lisa’s father was in the forces and she turned to him for advice on historical details regarding uniforms.

She admitted it was a contrast to their usual work: “We have done one or two remembrance style cakes. We do a lot more wedding cakes.”

But the cake decorator, who lives in Longton, says she loves the challenge of creating the window displays which also utilise her design skills.

The former pupil of Penwortham Girls High studied art at Runshaw College in Leyland and did a graphics degree at Blackpool College before taking up sugarcraft and setting up her own business.
