A pedestrian was killed after colliding with a motorbike as he walked his dog.
Derek Atherton, 58, died in hospital following the incident on Blackpool's South Promenade.

He was crossing the road where hundreds of people were enjoying the illuminations when the tragedy happened at 8.05pm on Friday.

The biker was travelling south along the promenade, close to the junction with Crystal Road, when he collided with Mr Atherton who is thought to have been crossing the road with his dog.

Mr Atherton was taken to the Blackpool Victoria Hospital with serious leg, body and head injuries but died later.

The motorcyclist was also taken to hospital with less serious injuries.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "The collision occurred during the Blackpool Illuminations and a number of witnesses have come forward.

"However, there remains a possibility that there are further eye-witnesses, some of whom may not be local to Blackpool."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Blackpool Police on 01253 293933.
