An elderly man in a wheelchair who toppled into a ditch had to be rescued by firefighters.
The man's electric wheelchair left a path at Marsh Point on St George's Quay in Lancaster and got stuck in the ditch at 3.30pm on Monday.

A doctor who was passing spotted the man, thought to be in his 60s, and dialled 999 on his mobile.

Firecrews rescued the man using a basket stretcher and an ambulance took him to Royal Lancaster Hospital.

His injuries were not thought to be serious.
