A loving grandmother has set up a charity to help families affected by cleft lip and palates after her grandson Toby was born with the condition.
Tina Smith, 45, of Kirkham, near Preston, says she and her family knew nothing about cleft lip and palates until doctors discovered her daughter-in-law's unborn baby had the problem during a routine scan.

They now want to help other families in the same situation.

Tina, who is married to Brian and has two sons, said: "My son Daniel and his wife Paula were thrilled when they found out she was expecting a second child.

"They already had a daughter, Lexie-Bo, and she was absolutely fine.

But when Paula was pregnant with Toby, she went for her routine 20-week scan at the Royal Preston Hospital and that's when doctors realised there was a problem."

The family found the nearest support group was in Liverpool so decided to set up a local association group.

Call Tina on 01772 673611 for details.
