Police today warned horse owners to keep their eyes open following recent thefts in the area.
The warning came after thieves targeted three premises in north Lancashire and stole riding and equestrian equipment.

One building in Nether Kellet saw equipment, including several saddles worth more than £800, stolen from stables.

Two premises in Out Moss Lane were also hit, with a racing cart and harness valued at £900 taken from one building and kit worth more than £500 taken from another.

All the offences took place between August 19 and August 20.

A police spokesman said: "All horse owners need to be aware that thieves do occasionally target stables and other premises such as farms where riding tack is kept.

"It is a relatively rare crime in this area but we would advise all owners to ensure their security is maintained and where necessary, improved.

"We would also like to hear from anyone offered any riding equipment for sale on the cheap in dubious circumstances to get in touch with us."

Anyone with information can call police on 08451 253545 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
