A man was threatened with a gun in broad daylight after he chased vandals who damaged his car.
Vicitm John Butler, 46, spotted a gang of four boys and a girl damaging his BMW car, which was parked outside his home on The Green, Ribbleton, at around 5.50pm on Thursday.
He chased the group, but one of the offenders turned and brandished a gun at him.
Mr Butler today said: "I jumped over a wall to protect myself and the group shouted to him and he walked away."
A 19-year-old man has been arrested and is helping police with their inquiries.
Det Insp Dave McKenna said: "The gun was not discharged, but this was still a frightening incident for the victim. It is not clear what kind of weapon was used to threaten him.
"We want to appeal for information from the community who may have seen or heard something. Gun crime will not be tolerated in Preston."
The case has chilling similarities to that of tragic Warrington dad Garry Newlove, who was kicked to death after standing up to yobs outside his home. The 47-year-old was attacked in Fearnhead, Warrington, on August 10, 2007, after a confrontation with a gang of youths who had been vandalising cars.
