Driving examiners saw double when twins Kimberley and Kirsty Smith passed on the same day.

The pair, both 17, of Longfield, Fulwood, Preston, startled their driving instructor Phil Cope, who had never seen such a feat achieved in his 16 years of teaching.

And it came just a few months after the dark-haired duo sailed through their driving theory test – also on the same day.

But this is just the tip of the iceberg for this near identical duo – they do everything together. They both take the same sports science course at Myerscough College and love riding their horses, Jigsaw and Chester, at Catforth.

They both achieved the same grades for their first year at Myerscough College, both support Manchester United and both love R'n'B and dance music.

The twins have also starred as extras in Grange Hill, Waterloo Road and, when they were babies, in Edward Woodward's In Suspicious Circumstances.

Following their successful driving tests, Kimberley said: "It's great. I was a bit nervous to start with but my twin went in first and passed so it relieved the pressure a little bit. I was more bothered in case one passed and one didn't."

Kirsty said: "We were aiming for just one of us to pass but for both of us to pass, we feel really chuffed. My older brother says he is going to buy us a car to share. I just feel really excited and am going out to celebrate."

Their mum Lynette said: "I'm delighted – the instructors say they've never heard of twins passing on the same day. I'm very proud of them."

Thanks to those that have passed encouraging coments and shame on those scum who have said otherwise.

Their father died a few years ago so this was a massive achievment for them!

As their brother, I would know this.

Marc - so these people are scum just for merely thinking that this is not worthy of an article on here and in the actual paper? Do me a favour!!

However, the only thing I take exception to is this:

"both support Manchester United"
