One of the main contribitions to this traffic problem are the cars travelling in and out of the buildings at Fulwood Asda site...admittedly this is probably the afternoon that is most affected but this combined with huge housing developments such as Cottam all add to it. If new homes or offices are built then money needs to be spent on the road infrastructures. Look at the vast number of buildings up near Asda..little has changed in terms of roads but there must be well over 3000 extra people have started communting there in the past 10 years

As someone who commutes to Blackpool and back everyday I've seen the root cause of this. Its not so much the M55 roundabout traffic lights that are the problem, more so the ones that are actually in Broughton with all the traffic backing up down Garstang Road, some times as far back as Moor Park. But the design of the roads is awful because Garstang Road can easily back up on to Eastway and render it useless.

It's not the Fulwood Asda traffic that's doing it, it's all those Journo's driving to Oliver's Place.

The root cause for traffic travelling south is the fact that the traffic lights on the roundabout control North travelling traffic and the 2 motorway exits. South travelling traffic going towards Preston are not light controlled and therefore cannot get onto the roundabout, and, as a consequence, the traffic backs up all the way through Broughton traffic lights. This would appear to be a problem even if the Broughton By-pass is built.

A useful addition would be a slip road onto the M55 westbound from the roundabout behind the fire station. It would mean traffic heading that way from Tom Benson Way or Eastway wouldn't need to filter into the A6 at that hideous junction or even touch the main roundabout at all.

A more use addition would be to build another junction further down (Woodplumpton) reducing the load on the other junction.

Although over the past few days I think the traffic situation had improved immeasurably !
