The sister of a Preston man who died in a factory accident has led tributes to him.
An investigation has been launched into the horrific death of Michael Lahaza killed after he became entangled in machinery.

Mr Lahaza, 45, of Garden Walk, Ashton, was found dead by his fellow workers at Autoy Ltd in Castleton Road, Deepdale.

His sister, Barbara, said: "Michael was a hard-working, good man that was well-liked and loved by all his family and friends."

Police and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) officials are both investigating the incident which is likely to carry on throughout the week.

It is believed Mr Lahaza, who was not married and had no children, had worked at the plant on Saturday morning but colleagues became concerned when they noticed his car was still outside some time later.

Workers went back inside when they made the discovery at just after noon.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken away from the scene on Sunday as detectives try to piece together what happened.

Friend and neighbour Chris O'Donohue, of Garden Walk, said: "I was absolutely shocked when I found out - I couldn't believe it. Mick was a really, really nice bloke. He was a quiet bloke.

"He was a really good musician and guitarist.

"He loved blues and rock music and converted his loft into a recording studio. We would have paid to watch him. He looked like an old rocker with his pony tail.

"He helped anyone if he could and helped us when we were having our loft converted. He was also a really hard worker as an engineer."

Mr O'Donohue said that he has known Mr Lahaza since he moved into the area around seven years ago.

Another neighbour said: "I am just in shock."

Messages have also been posted online at www.lep.co.uk.

One reads: "This is awful news. RIP Mick. With sympathy to your family, friends and work colleagues at this sad time. Thinking of you all. Jane & family."

Police said Mr Lahaza had worked at Autoy for around 30 years. It is thought he was divorced and had a sister.

A Castleton Road resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "I heard the men screaming and swearing when they discovered the body. "At the time, I just thought it was noise from the street."

A spokesman for the HSE confirmed its officers are involved in the investigation adding that "an inspector's been out to the scene".

No-one from Autoy Ltd was available for comment. Police say it is "unlikely" the factory will be open on Monday.

Autoy Ltd specialises in precision machinery and was founded in 1943.
