Shoes polished, guests invited and parade ready - everything was in place for the Queen's visit to Fulwood Barracks, Preston, on Thursday.
Soldiers, army cadets and officers have been practising for over two weeks and are set for the presentation of the Duke of Lancaster regiment's new colours.

Around 600 soldiers from the 1st, 2nd and 4th Battalions were descending on the Watling Street barracks for the big event.

Her Majesty was also visiting Singleton's Dairy on Preston Road in Longridge for a tour of the family-run business, which has twice been awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise.

Thousands of wellwishers were expected to turn out to greet the Queen on her arrival at Preston Railway Station, in Longridge and outside the barracks.

She was last in Preston six years ago when she awarded it city status.

I love it when The Queen comes to Preston Railway Station. She is very wise and ignores the tiresome one-way system with the full blessing of the police.

Her motorcade turns right and follows the most direct route - that means the wrong way up Fishergate - and she'll be at Fulwood Barracks within minutes.

So sensible. I wonder why no-one else has thought of it.

In breach of yes, above it no. If I shot a pair of rare Hen Harriers, for instance, it'd be handcuffs, court and a chunky fine. Prince Harry? No prob.
Three cheers for Diana, Princess of Sweetness and Cakes.
