A teenager has died after falling off a trail bike in a field in Lancashire.
The boy was riding the bike on a remote dirt track south-west of Mere Brow when the accident happened, about 2pm on Sunday.

The boy's father noticed he had been missing some time and found him lying badly injured when he went to search for him.

It is understood he was not wearing a safety helmet and suffered serious head injuries.

An ambulance spokesperson said the boy is believed to be 17-years-old.

A crew from the North-West Air Ambulance secured the boy's airways and then airlifted him to Royal Preston Hospital.

He was given emergency treatment at hospital but died soon afterwards.

Lancashire Police also attended the scene of the accident.

Helmets might not be cool but they are lifesavers.

This is a very sad incident and im sorry for the lads parents but i think the police need to chat to the game keeper who did exactly the same to my friend on the same land some years ago. But there is a wider issue here and its one that has never been addressed and needs to be. Had there been rights of way for off road motorcycling clearly defined this lad would never have been in that location.

In this country there seems to be rights for just about anyone and everyone but having looked at the laws regarding off road biking in this country its seems that as motorcyclists we are totally over looked and no wonder we have such problems with kids running amok on private land and the roads.

There seems to be no legal places for kids and adults to ride off road at all , the laws are vague and the youll never actually know laws your breaking where? The US have trail parks and the like for young riders to learn and older ones to play safely in but here in this country we dont even know whos land we are on or if the green lane is private or not. This could have us fall foul of the law and even have our vehicles taken just because their are no clearly defined areas and laws.

The whole thing is a total sham, horse riders/cyclists have their bridal paths/tracks marked and the laws regarding access and rights of way well defined, but as a motorcyclist all we can do is guess?? we take our bikes up some dirt track in the hills of lancashire we could be in breach of various laws, wandering onto private property or even damaging a national park but how the hell are we suppose to know?

Time this foolishness was delt with and all the thousands of children and off road riders knew their rights and had designated rights of way. Unlike the monster who took this lads life...bikers are actually human too!
