Watch footage of the scene in Higher Walton and interviews with residents - who were starting to clean up after the flood waters receded
A woman in her 60s had to be rescued by police after being trapped in her vehicle in a Lancashire village.
The woman was trapped in her Nissan Micra on Grape Lane in Croston until two police officers were able to rescue her at 11.50am on Monday.
PC Andy Woodward, community beat manager for Coppull, who performed the rescue with Sgt Chris Brookes, said: "The lady was in her 60s. We waded across and lifted her out of the driver's seat and carried her to dry land. She was distressed and there was quite a lot of water in her car.
"The water was quite deep above the knees and we didn't have any wellies or other equipment. The lady was from outside of Croston and was visiting her father in the nursing home.
"We were busy for most of the day helping out with cars trapped in the floods and helping residents with sandbags."
Meanwhile in Church Street in Croston water lapped around residents' front doors as children played in the street.
Cuerden Valley Park, between Chorley and Bamber Bridge, had to be closed to visitors between midday and 3pm on Monday after heavy rain turned a stream into a raging torrent.
