A round-up of news in brief from around Lancashire.
Wind firm 'will appeal'
Developers behind plans for a towering wind turbine which has attracted more than 300 objections will appeal if the plan is rejected by councillors.
A spokesman for Wind Direct, based in Lancaster, have confirmed that they will appeal if Wyre Council's planning committee rejects plans for the 127-metre high turbine close to the Dewlay cheese factory off the A6 near Garstang.
Planning officers at the council have already recommended the plan be turned down.

Join women for meeting
New members and visitors are being invited to the next meeting of the of Women's Institute in Ingol.
It will take place on Wednesday September 10 at St Margaret's Church, Tag Lane, and Chandra Law will give her talk on the Malaysian Wedding Basket.

Safety skills for bikers
Bikers can learn lifesaving skills at special courses in Preston.
Bikers are being offered the chance to take part in specialist first aid courses.
The First Bike on Scene courses teach bikers how to remove helmets safely and provide basic life support until paramedics arrive.

Firefighters tackle triathlon
Four Lancashire firefighters are to tackle a gruelling annual challenge.
The quartet will join around 200 other triathletes for the World Firefighter Games triathlon around Rivington reservoir tomorrow.
Competitors from as far afield as Japan will complete a 10k swim in the reservoir, a 40km bike ride and a 10km run up the pike.
The event begins at the Anderton Centre at 8am. The public are welcome to watch.

Bus times change to help prison visitors
A bus service timetable is being changed to fit in with prison visiting times.
Lancashire County Council is altering the 112 service to Wymott Prison from Monday.
The 3.15pm Monday to Saturday Preston to Wymott service will now depart at 3.30pm and operate 15 minutes later throughout its run, while the 4.04pm service between Wymott and Preston will depart at 4.19pm and operate 15 minutes later.

Graham nets £300 grant to help new soccer team
A Lancashire county councillor has secured a £300 grant for a new football team in Bamber Bridge.
Coun Graham Davies has provided Brigg FC with the money and they are now looking forward to their first league match tomorrow.
The council grant will be spent on new kits, footballs and equipment for the team, which is currently training at Buckshaw Village, Chorley.
Charlie McDonnell, team organiser, thanked Coun Davies for his help and said: "It's been tough as we have had to set up the team, basically from scratch. When you're starting from nothing, £300 is very helpful."

900-mile bikers help fight cancer
Two badminton players from Lancashire have taken to pedal power in their bid to raise money for a Preston cancer centre.
Joe Huggon, 23, from Longridge and Ian Hayhurst, 26, from Clayton-le-Woods, are in the middle of a 900-mile cycle ride from Paris to Barcelona, to raise funds for the Rosemere Cancer Centre.
Ian's mum Hilary said he wanted to do it for Rosemere because his dad received "excellent treatment from the centre" before he died three years ago.

Parks awarded green flags
five parks have been awarded the country's highest accolade for quality.
Grange Park, Haslam Park, Fishwick Bottoms and Avenham and Miller Parks have been awarded green flags by the Civic Trust.
Preston Mayor John Swindells said: "A big well done to the team of gardeners, rangers and parks and horticulture staff for their hard work in achieving these awards."

Revamped store to open this week
Marks & Spencer will launch its newly-revamped store in Preston city centre on Thursday.
Personal shoppers and stylists will be on hand to help customers choose from extended clothing lines and there will be food tasting and free champagne in the Food Hall.
Store manager Barbara McAlister will cut the ribbon at 9am.

Help is needed to run youth group in Tarleton
Activities for teenagers in Tarleton could get a boost with plans for a new youth group.
Residents will be asked to help run the group for 13 to 17- year-olds with the help of Tarleton Parish Council and Lancashire County Council.
To find out more, attend the meeting at the Pavilion on Carr Lane, at 7.30pm on Monday, September 8.
