Blaze at AerodromeFirefighters were called to Samlesbury Aerodrome after a blaze broke out in the roof. It happened just before 10am yesterday and was caused by an electrical heating unit overheating.
Homes plan for car parts factoryPlans for 98 homes on the site of a former car parts factory look set to be given the green light.
Developer Bellway has applied to build two and three-storey properties on the former Prestolite site in Cleveland Road, Leyland. One-fifth will be built as affordable homes.
Seven people objected to the scheme in writing to South Ribble Council, which will have the final say at a meeting on Wednesday.
Cyclist injuredA cyclist was injured following an accident with a car on a busy Preston road.The rider was knocked from the bike following the collision with a Vauxhall Signum car, which happened just before 5pm last night on Eastway, at its junction with Anderton's Way in Fulwood.
Police say it is believed neither the cyclist nor the driver of the Vauxhall received serious injuries. The road remained open.
Fireplace showroom damaged by blazeA fireplace showroom in Preston has been badly damaged by a blaze.
The fire broke out in Petticoat Lane Fireplaces in Brook Street at 6.45pm yesterday.
Firecrews used an aerial ladder platform to tackle the blaze, which spread from the ground floor to the roof.
Blackout in SkertonHouses in Lancashire were plunged into darkness after a electricity substation caught fire.
Firefighters were called to the station on Owen Road, Skerton, Lancaster, at 7.30pm on Wednesday to deal with the blaze.
A Lancashire fire service spokesman said: "A large section of the Skerton area was in darkness because they had to switch the substation off. The main transformer had overheated and there was a large quantity of smoke."
Man admits police assaultA Ribbleton man who assaulted a police officer has been fined £50.
Mark McCarthy, 39, of Dawnay Road, admitted assault and breaching the peace. Preston magistrates ordered him to pay £25 costs, a £15 victim surcharge and a £100 bond to keep the peace for a year.
Phone driver handed fineDriving while using a handheld mobile has cost a Walton-le-Dale man £115.
Paul Phillipson, 53, of Orchard Close, was also convicted of having no MoT certificate. Preston magistrates imposed a £50 fine, £50 costs and a £15 victim surcharge, plus three penalty points.
Teen curfewA teenager who assaulted a police officer has been placed on a curfew.
Charlotte Iddon, 18, of Starrgate Drive, Larches, also admitted being drunk and disorderly. Preston magistrates placed her on a two-month curfew and told her to pay £85 costs.
Banging the county drumA night celebrating Lancashire's finest traditions will take place in Preston at the end of November.

Tree blocksA motorist had to swerve to avoid a tree after it was uprooted in stormy weather.
The tree came down on Lodge Lane, Singleton, just after 7am on Wednesday.The road was blocked in both directions.

Cemetery to get biggerA cemetery could be expanded.
Council chiefs in the Ribble Valley have opened discussions on buying more land to increase the size of Clitheroe Cemetery. A council committee says the cemetery only has around five years of grave space left. Council bosses said they were looking to purchase enough land for another 40 years of burials.
