A round-up of news in brief from around Lancashire
Boy taken to hospital
A boy was taken to hospital with minor head injuries after a road accident.
Police and an ambulance were called to Garstang Road, close to the Post Office, in Broughton, Preston, shortly after 3pm yesterday following reports a 15-year-old boy had been knocked over.
He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital by ambulance.

Residents to discuss concerns
Residents can discuss concerns and debate issues, such as firework dangers, outside a city supermarket tomorrow. Seven local councillors will be at Morrison's car park on Riversway, Ashton, from 10am-4pm.

Alert over bonfire
Firefighters were called to a dangerous bonfire on waste land in Ribbleton, Preston.
They tackled the blaze at Marl Hill Crescent at around 9.30pm on Sunday.
Yesterday they put out a fire at a skip filled with cardboard behind Topps Tiles in North Road, Deepdale.

Free hygiene advice offer
Food caterers and retailers are to be offered free advice on improving food hygiene and safety.
Lancaster City Council has been given funding to provide guidance on the Food Standards Agency's Safer Food, Better Business management system.
It is available to all businesses, including restaurants, cafes and takeaways.

Wife row ends in court
A manager at BAE Systems Warton was arrested by police after arguing with his wife.
Kenneth Powell, the company's avionics support manager, 61, of Spring Gardens, St Annes, admitted breach of the peace.
Powell was bound over in the sum of £600 for 12 months by Blackpool magistrates.

£3,500 for special school
Fundraisers have raised £3,500 for a Lancashire special school.
A dinner-dance at Fishwick Golf Club brought in the cash for the Pear Tree School in Kirkham.
The school caters for students aged 2-19 with a range of learning difficulties.

First aid presentation
The Preston branch of the National Osteoporosis Society will meet at Clifton House, Watling Street Road, on November 13.
The meeting starts at 7.30pm and will include a presentation on first aid.

£3,000 bike is stolen
A specialised stunt jumper expert grey mountain bike worth £3,000 was stolen from a terraced garage on Danvers Way, Fulwood, Preston.
The bike was stolen, along with a rucksack, between 5pm on October 27 and 8am on Sunday.

Car taken after break-in
Thieves used car keys stolen from a house on Coniston Road, Fulwood, to steal a Volkswagen Golf registered V503 LCW.
The intruders also stole two Nokia 6300 phones, a Casio Exide camera, green handbag, light brown leather purse, sets of car keys for a Landrover Sport and Ford Fiesta and an Acer laptop.
It happened between midnight and 5am on November 2.

Clubs show off wares
Dozens of clubs and societies will be displaying their wares at Preston Hobbies Fair on November 30.
Card makers, wood workers and henna painters are all taking part in the exhibition.
The fair takes place at the Gujarat Hindu Society, South Meadow Lane, from 10am until 4pm.

Craft lessons
Fulwood Library will host an afternoon of crafts on November 12. The Garstang Road library will be demonstrating quilting, patchworking, card making and knitting from 2pm to 6pm. Call 01772 719082.

CD stolen
Thieves smashed the rear window of a Nissan Micra and ripped out the audio CD system. It happened on Pedder Street, Preston, between November 1 and 10.17am on November 3.

Care group centre plan
A house in Walton-le-Dale could become a centre for adults with learning difficulties.
Care Stanley Grange, of Samlesbury, has applied to change the use of the building in Higher Walton Road.

Osteoporosis meeting
The Preston and District branch of the National Osteoporosis Society will hold its latest meeting later this month.
It will be held at Clifton House, in Watling Street Road, Preston, at 7.30pm on Thursday November 13.
During the meeting a talk will be given on First Aid.

Woman freed from car crash
A woman escaped with minor injuries after her car swerved into a ditch in Lancashire.
Two fire crews freed her from the silver Vauxhall Vectra and she was later taken to hospital.
Police said the driver was attempting to overtake a tractor with a trailer. The woman's injuries are "not serious".
It happened shortly after 9.30am yesterday in Shore Road, Hesketh Bank.

Waste centre in tanks bid
Steel storage tanks could be erected at a Leyland industrial estate.
Mulberry Waste has applied to South Ribble Council to install the four tanks at its site on Clydesdale Place, Moss Side.

Police meeting
The next meeting of Sharoe Green PACT will take place on November 12 at 6.45pm. The venue is St Clare's School, Sharoe Green Lane, Preston.

Take a walk to get healthy
Park rangers have devised a series of free walks to help you get into shape.
Every Tuesday this month a ranger will be taking people on a short stroll designed to help shed those extra pounds.
To take part, simply turn up at the venue wearing comfortable clothing and sensible shoes for the two-mile walks along paths and roads. The walks, which start at 1pm, are:
November 11: Meet outside Spar, Hoghton Lane, Coupe Green
November 18: Meet at the corner of Queensway and West End
November 25: Meet at Longton Brickcroft car park

On song for shoppers
Shoppers will be treated to West End hits when a TV singer drops into the Mall in Preston.
Rob McVeigh, one of the finalists on BBC1's Any Dream Will Do, will sing out songs from musical Joseph, at the shopping centre tomorrow.
He will be joined by Kirkham Grammar pupil, Chloe Walker, who recently won a national talent competition.

Cuppas can raise cash
A first aid charity is urging people to drink tea and raise funds.
The Big Tea cosy is St John Ambulance's National fund-raising event throughout November.
St John Ambulance is also appealing to knitters to donate tea cosies to be sold nationwide to raise additional funds for the charity.

Date to meet the police
The next Police and Communities Together meeting for Ingol and Tanterton will be on November 12 at 6pm.
