It wasn't High Noon – it was 9pm on Thursday at The Boulevard in Frenchwood.
Drivers of a silver Mercedes Benz taxi and a single decker Stagecoach bus stood their grounds, refusing to budge their vehicles and bringing traffic chaos.

The taxi driver was heard yelling at the woman bus driver, demanding she give way though there were clear driveways for both to back up.

Eyewitness Heather Schulz said: "I witnessed a Mexican stand-off between a taxi driver and a Stagecoach bus outside in my normally quiet little street.

"I assumed it was two cars refusing to give way to each other, but when I looked out my bedroom window, I saw our local number 29 bus nose-to-nose with a New City taxi and the driver getting back into his cab after venting his anger at the female driver.

"As you can imagine, cars kept coming at either end of the stand-off and had to reverse.

"Several of my neighbours bravely tried to reason with the taxi driver, but to no avail and other drivers tried to talk calmly with the bus driver to find out why she couldn't reverse."

Stagecoach had to send a manager down to find out what was going on as the stand-off rumbled on for 30 minutes.

The bus company's north west managing director Chris Bowles told the Evening Post: "We believe the incident was caused by a taxi driver who willfully obstructed our vehicle on its side of the road.

"We really can't sympathise with this sort of behaviour – we had to take a supervisor to the site. We feel annoyed that people are preventing us in doing our normal duties."

Mr Bowles said the size of the bus made it difficult for it to back up but the saga was finally resolved after the taxi driver was persuaded to reverse away.

A spokesman for New City Taxis, based at Moor Lane, was not available for comment.

i blame the bus. obviously it takes up more of the road and the driver should have waitd for the taxi pass. I'm fed yo of busses just pulling out and bullying other drivers out of the way due to their size.

polite bus drivers are few and far between all to often they will push in and set off from bus stops whilst cars are passing with no consideration.
although taxi drivers are not much better

Taxi drivers think they own the road. Stopping in the middle of the road to pick up and drop off passengers even though there is space on the kerbside. Having a total disregard for speed limits and red lights and always driving up your backside!!

Agree with the comments on taxi rivers....... but BUS drivers are no better!! Very reluctant to give way, pushing upon cars, lately speeding has been noted. They've started to feel they own the road!!! If you look at the picture on the boulevard closely the taxi drver had the right of way, as cars are parked to the left of the road!!! Simply bullish approach from modern bus drivers!!!

Well of course the taxi would have been on the wrong side of the road he was probably driving past parked cars on his side of the road. Typical of the Stagecoach spokesperson to just side with their driver. From recent stories in the LEP their credibility is open to question.Saying that though it is easier to reverse a saloon car than a bus.
The residents of the Boulevard can expect reactionary double yellow lines in no time at all!

not all taxi drivers and bus drivers are the same , some of us do care , drive within the law , and anyhow how can somebody say its the bus in the wrong when the photo clearly shows that the cars parked are on the taxi's side which in my eyes means that he should have gave way , either way BOTH drivers should be held to account for their appalling behaviour whilst in charge of public service vehicles
