It is destined to become the fastest selling DVD of all time, and a Preston brother and sister are laying claim to Mamma Mia! success.
Becky Pollard, 15, and brother Joseph, 12, are appearing in a TV commercial for the DVD of the Abba-inspired smash-hit musical movie.

The Our Lady's Catholic High School pupils, of Greyfriars Crescent, Fulwood, chanced upon auditions when they were out shopping in Birmingham's Bullring and queued up with hundreds of shoppers to take their turn singing along to Abba hits.

The pair had no idea they had been chosen to appear until Becky spotted the ad while watching The X Factor with pals last week.

Their mum Theresa said Becky and Joseph were thrilled with their 15 seconds of fame in the commercial, which shows Abba fans from around the country singing and dancing to the supergroup's hits.

Theresa, who works for the Open University, said: "Becky was at a friend's house, watching TV, when the advert just popped up.

"When they went into school the next week, so many people had seen them.
"I was away abroad so I missed it, but when I landed back in England, my phone was going mad with messages!

"We were only in Birmingham because I'd gone down for a meeting.

"They are both really into drama so they queued up when they saw the TV cameras."

Becky, who attends the Players' Drama School in Grimshaw Street and wants to pursue a career in performing arts, said: "I've had people coming up to me in school randomly. It's a bit surreal really because you don't expect people to recognise you off the TV."

Universal Pictures said DVD sales for the feel-good film, which stars Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, were 1.669 million on the first day on Monday.

The previous day-one sales record was held for a decade by James Cameron's 1998 epic Titanic which sold 1.1 million copies on the first day of release in UK.
